Some live Christmas tree preservatives have sugar in them which make them seem yummy to your dog.

Seems you learn something obscure everyday.  It makes a certian amount of sense as sugar would be fairly easy for a live Xmas tree to absorb bur would also to tasty to your best friend. I remember being slight amazed when one of my boxers set about some fresh geranium flowers that were very scented, she just ate the flowers nothing else.  I suppose a number of the other new items will be of interest including tinsel, ornaments, trees, electrical cords, candles, fake snow and Christmas lights so just ensure they are well protected.
